Suspected Bingo Thief Pleads not Guilty to Assault Charges

Although admitting to charges of robbing an elderly woman of her $450 bingo winnings, the alleged perpetrator claimed not to have hit the woman intentionally. The 31-year old homeless man was charged with unarmed robbery of a person over age 60, assault and battery and burglary and assault on occupant.

Canadian Bingo Hall Ordered to Close

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Association demanded a local bingo hall close its doors for four months. Months of financial woes put the bingo hall in such a position that they had a hard time paying out prizes. Employees had supposedly even taken tax cuts to cushion the damage, but to no avail.

An Alabama State Representative recently proposed an amendment to the state constitution to expand the number of venues that would carry electronic bingo games. The proposed amendment would also tax the games to benefit the state's Medicaid program, which is in severe need of funding.

Proposed Rule in Indiana Would Mandate Bingo Charity Cut

Indiana's Department of Revenue has launced efforts to reinstate a rule requiring charitable gaming operators to contribute 10 percent of gross earnings to charity. In 2003, such a rule was adopted, but never truly made it off the ground before a judge eliminated the rule after the state never submitted for fiscal analysis by the Legislative Services Agency.
