A public hearing will convene tomorrow to help decide the fate of a proposed bingo hall in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Both supporters and opponents of the proposed Playtime Community Gaming Centres Inc. Coquitlam site will tell the council whether or not they want land rezoned near Silver City for the bingo hall. Opponents will cite a number of justifications, everything from the ecological effects of the rezoning, to the usual anti-gambling arguments. In favor of the bingo hall, representatives from some of the 60 to 120 charities, which will benefit from the hall, are expected to speak.

The hearing marks the last opportunity the council has to hear public opinion before it votes on the bingo proposal. On the table is the rezoning of 3.45 acres of land to build the bingo hall. The resolution originally also included a proposal for slot machines on site, but this proposition has since been scrapped, due to the controversy it stirred.
