After being reviewed by the Florida State legislature, a bill was passed making way for electronic bingo in Broward County. Though the bill was initially proposed in the hopes of legalizing slot machines, and though county residents voted in favor of the slots, the Business Regulation Committee limited its approval to Class II machines such as bingo.
This decision frustrated many gambling supporters, as bingo machines already exist at Indian Casinos and allow for considerably less profits than their Class II counterparts. Making them available at local pari-mutuels seemed relatively insignificant to some.
While Class II machines generate considerably less profit than Class III machines, such as slots, taxes on the less profitable machines are to be close to twice the initially expected amount.
