Planet Bingo, a supplier of bingo and progressive prize games, reportedly plans to appeal a recent Las Vegas court decision relating to a patent infringement lawsuit against competitor GameTech. According to Planet Bingo, GameTech infringed upon patents when it attempted to clone Planet Bingo’s successful MPBingo game. The MPBingo game allows players at multiple locations to play in one a linked, multi-progressive game, offering some of the highest jackpots available. GameTech’s attempt to compete with MPBingo has not yielded any sales, and it is unclear whether GameTech has any intention of continuing development for the software.
The court ruled that GameTech had not infringed on the Planet Bingo patents, following a decision from a lower court which had ruled in favor of Planet Bingo. Planet Bingo attorney Jeffrey Weiss said that the current ruling is only one stage in the process, and he expects the appeal to be complete within a year, he hopes, in Planet Bingo’s favor.
The case, fortunately, does not affect Planet Bingo or GameTech’s daily functions. Both bingo providers continue to market and license their software to bingo halls.
