The National Bingo Game Association (NGBA), which runs the UK’s National Game, is launching a new advertising campaign. The group organizes the national bingo game, which is played in bingo halls across the UK, including Mecca and Gala Bingo.
Starting in July, there will be national games on weekday afternoons as well, whereas until now there had only been afternoon bingo games on Saturdays. On Friday nights, there will be a £100,000 share-out in addition to the prize for the National Game, and in October, Sunday prize totals will be raised by £50,000 to £250,000 on a one-time basis.
The NGBA has hired promoter Spinnaker to help with the advertising campaign, which is meant to attract the target population of women aged 30 to 50. Bingo halls will promote the prize increases, and will name long-time players as “bingo angels.” The bingo angels will be asked to bring friends to the bingo halls, and to explain the game to them.
The NGBA will also run advertisements in the bingo magazine Eyes Down and in the national press.
Despite the efforts of the NGBA, the new promotion will not be accompanied by the revocation of the "24-hour rule", a rule which requires new players to be members of the bingo club for at least 24 hours before playing a national game. The NGBA currently expects the rule to be revoked in November, much later than hoped.
