A group of 8 men and women were indicted in a Catlettsburg, Ohio court for stealing tens of thousands of dollars of bingo money raised by charities. The group targeted bingo money raised to benefit the Highlands Museum in Ashland, Polio Survivors, an art gallery, and a veterans group.
The group allegedly operated a syndicate which stole significant amounts of bingo funds between 1999 and 2001. The eight charged were Okie Bailey, 54, and Barbara Bentley Trojak, 54, of Huntington, West Viginia; Billie and Roger Huffman, 52 and 49, of Catlettsburg; Gene McLain, 62, of Ashland; Bill and Becky Abrams of Raceland; and Rita Whitt, 56 of Ashland. Rita Whitt is believed to be the organizer of the bingo theft syndicate.
