Ed and his wife Phyllis McNally operate the Joplin Shrine Club’s bingo each week. Last week the couple went with security guard Bill Harmon to deposit the night’s proceeds of $4,000. They deposited the cash and checks in the bank’s night depository box.
The bank has no record of the bingo money, needed for the club’s programs. When the couple went to the bank, the bank said that there was no deposit slip, and that the money had not been seen.
The bank’s manager credit the club’s account for the disputed amount, and the McNallys were able to continue their bingo games, but police are confused by the case. The bank has filed a police report stating that the money was not present in the deposit box. The bank manager declined to comment on any internal investigations.
Much of the bingo money raised by the Joplin Shrine Club provides transportation for children who need to reach the Shriners Hospitals for Children for treatment. While the Shriners Hospital offers free care for children, transportation funds are not covered by the hospital.
