Wal-Mart has sent out an internal memo telling managers to shut down the bingo games operated in stores around the United States. Utah’s senior citizens are concerned that with the closure of Wal-Mart’s bingo and the recent crackdowns on bingo halls, there will soon be no more bingo in Utah.

Wal-Mart has decided to pull bingo in all of their shops, because many states have anti-bingo laws or restrictions. The Wal-Mart version of bingo in Utah, however, broke no local laws. Utah law allows bingo as long as players do not pay to play the game, and the prizes are not cash. Wal-Mart gave out bingo cards to players for free, and prizes were small items or low-value Wal-Mart gift certificates.
