Amid extreme controversy, a Wyoming charity has found a new way around the state law against slot machines. Judge E. James Burke ruled that electronic bingo games did not meet the standards for bingo games in state law, and that only paper games would be legal.
Throughout the state, charitable organizations immediately closed down electronic bingo machines, but the Lions Club Hilltop Bingo says that their newest electronic bingo game meets state standards for bingo. Unlike the previous generation of “Fast Action” bingo machines, the new game, called “Bounce Back Bingo” is played between two players at a time, and there is a winner in every round.
Although the game is much more similar to the pari-mutuel approach of standard bingo, many have raised doubts about the legality of the new game. Wyoming 7th District Attorney Mike Blonigen said that the new machines prove that the law must be clarified, and stated that as long as there is money to be made, someone will look for a way to get around the law.
