Carthage, Missouri has a new kind of bingo. Instead of the sidewalk sales of previous years, this year the Chamber of Commerce will be holding what they call a "Sale-Bration." Players will be able to get bingo cards at a variety of locations, including eighteen local stores and the Chamber of Commerce.
The players will have until 5pm on the day of the event to go to five stores in order to fill a line on their bingo cards. When a player fills a line, the card can be entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes from the participating businesses. Debra Smith, the director of member services at the Chamber of Commerce, said that the sidewalk sales of previous years were too expensive for many businesses. Many store owners said that there was too much of a theft problem, and that the cost of hiring extra workers to monitor the outdoor area was too high.
Chamber President Max McKnight said that the goal of the Sale-Bration is to get shoppers into local businesses that they currently don’t frequent. And he hopes that the bingo game will do just that.
