A woman who is the alleged mastermind behind a bingo-related shooting that left a mother of nine severely injured will stand trial this week. Despite delays caused by Hurricane Katrina, the trial will move forward this Tuesday. The defendant, Natia Nicole Johnson, 25, has pleaded not guilty to the shooting charges.
It seems that Johnson was present at Prime Time Bingo in West Palm Beach when the victim, Pamela Anderson, 42, scooped a $5,900 jackpot. Johnson told police that she text messaged accomplice Tiffany Washington with instructions and information about their plans to steal Anderson’s winnings. Johnson’s brother, Benton Johnson, 26, is accused of pulling the trigger, while a fourth, Calvin Morgan, was also involved in the botched robbery. Washington has already pleaded no contest to the charges against her, and has agreed to testify against her accomplices in hopes of reducing her sentence. No details of any arrangement with prosecutors have been released at this time.
Benton and Natia Johnson reported that the gun went off accidentally after Benton was hit by Anderson’s car in her attempt to escape the robbers. Anderson, who took the stand in Benton Johnson’s trial, rebutted the claim, saying that her car did not, at any point, hit any of the perpetrators. |
