Plans are on the table to expand the Potawatomi Bingo Casino. The Forest County Potawatomi Community has filed extension plans, requesting a zoning change that would allow them to make a $240 million expansion of the bingo casino. On the other hand, there is a lawsuit in the works, which may create legal problems for all of Wisconsin’s Indian Casinos and bingo halls. Dairyland Greyhound Park filed charges against the state of Wisconsin, claiming that Indian bingo and casino games are unconstitutional. Oral arguments in the Wisconsin Supreme Court will begin on September 7.
Potawatomi representatives said that any construction would wait until the Dairyland Greyhound Park case is settled. The new bingo casino plan is expected to create a number of jobs, including over 500 construction jobs, 1000 casino jobs, and 4,400 indirect jobs.
