If you love bingo and happen to be in the New York area, then treat yourself to “Bingo,” the musical. The play, which debuted Off-Broadway, chronicles three ladies' passions for everything bingo. In terms of reflecting the reality of playing bingo in a real bingo hall, the musical gives its all. Actual bingo cards are distributed to audience members to play along with the show's characters, who sit onstage in a fictional church hall.

The main characters, Vern, Honey, and Patsy, represent a cross section of typical bingo players from the obsessive, to the superstitious, to the uninitiated. The kitschy storyline has the three protagonists brave a horrendous storm to reach their shrine, the bingo hall, for a night of fun and games. While focusing mostly on the game of bingo, how it is played, and the wacky rituals of its players, the musical comedy also has a subplot relating to a fourth, disenfranchised, friend in the bingo group, Bernice.

“Bingo” offers us bingo players a chance to laugh at ourselves and our pastime, and enjoy a night of music and bingo entertainment. The play is staged on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday nights, with two daily shows on Saturday and Sunday, along with a Wednesday afternoon matinée.
