When Alan and Amanda McArdle won a £100,000 bingo jackpot last year, the future probably looked quite rosy to them. Little did they realize that, just 18 months later, they'd be left penniless.

Binge spending seems to be what ruined the big bingo win for the couple, as they laid out enormous sums of cash to buy a car, go on a European vacation, and splurge on a fancy wedding party for themselves. What brought down the “house,” though, was an investment of £20,000 in a friend's business that subsequently went bust. Not only did that lose a fifth of their bingo bucks to the friend's business, but upon suing to try and recover it, they lost and had to pay legal fees to boot!

The McArdles, who have four children, won the £100,000 jackpot at Key Bingo, a Scottish bingo hall, in May of last year. Let's hope that Christmas brings good tidings to them, so they can have a fresh start in the New Year.
