For 87-year-old Maybelle Graves, bingo is more than just a pleasurable pastime. Bingo has a more selfless purpose for this North Carolina resident: providing needy children with toys. For over two years now, Maybelle has been donating the stuffed animals she wins in her bingo games to underprivileged youths through Toys for Tots.
Not having much use for the fluffy bingo prizes, Graves figures that less fortunate children would surely benefit greatly from her cuddly offerings. Choosing Toys for Tots as the vehicle for her benevolence, Graves pools her stuffed animals with those of other bingo winners who liked her idea, to help distribute hundreds of gifts each Christmas season. The non-profit Toys for Tots is a nationwide organization that collects new unwrapped toys for annual distribution over the winter holidays in late December.
