Taking advantage of a recent easing of gambling regulations in the UK, Gala Bingo has been on an acquisitions frenzy. The company most recently purchased rival County Bingo for the tidy sum of £64 million. County's 10 bingo halls are primarily located in and around Glasgow, Scotland. Gala Bingo has thus instantly increased its presence in Scotland by 50% and now owns 30 bingo halls in the country.
Rather than just switch the halls over to new management, all 10 former County Bingo venues will also have their names and logos switched over to the Gala Bingo brand. In addition, the 10 halls will be refurbished to better parallel Gala Bingo's other high quality establishments.
County Properties decided to divest its bingo holdings after the death of company founder Thomas Paulo Sr. last year. Thomas Paulo Jr. had taken over the company's bingo operations upon his late father's death. The £64 million bingo sale catapults Paulo Jr. onto the list of the 100 richest Scots.
