Residents of Gardnerville, Nevada, have chosen bingo as a fitting memorial to their beloved crime-fighting dog, Jon-Jon, who was killed in the line of duty. The mutt, a member of the town's Canine Unit, was shot in accidental car fire and succumbed to its wounds. In a touching tribute to Jon-Jon, Gardnerville's townspeople will be dedicating a bingo night to raising funds for a new police pooch.
Gardnerville's citizens hope to raise between $5,000 and $7,000 in bingo proceeds so that they can donate a new police dog to the Sheriff's Department. As a previous bingo fundraiser in the town netted thousands of dollars to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the townspeople seem to be barking up the right tree. Though Jon-Jon is “gone gone,” Gardnerville will never forget the dog who gave up his life so that they could walk the streets a little more safely.
