A 57-year-old man was thrown out of his local bingo hall for yelling with excess enthusiasm when his numbers were called. The Mecca bingo hall in the town of Stevenage, England decided to ban John Wells for a month following complaints filed by fellow players that Wells' shouting disturbs them.
Wells has been quoted as saying that his victory cries of "wakey, wakey" were not particularly loud, and that complaints against him were motivated by jealousy over his bingo successes.
A spokesperson alleged that the Mecca's manager had issued Wells several warnings over the past few months before deciding to ban him and that this sort of ban is indeed rare at the Mecca. The hall claims that every time Wells would cry his trademark "wakey, wakey," other customers would ask him to tone down his act.
What happens when the month comes to an end? Wells has said that he'll be back at the Mecca.
