Horoscope Aspects are the physical relationships between the planets. They are measured by the angle between the two planets. Since only certain angles have a relationship, most astrologers allow a difference of up to 10 degrees, which is known as an orb. Generally, the most significant aspect is the angle between the Ascendant and Midheaven (or the 10th house).
Aspects can be of three main types:
They can be harmonious, dynamic/disharmonious, or neutral.
The harmonious aspects are conjunction (0º), sextile (60º), quintile (72º), trine (120°), and Bi-quintile (144°.)
Some of the harmonious aspects have special features:
Conjunction, like all aspects, depends on the planets involved. Conjunction usually shows an immediate connection.
Planets in a trine aspect work together to enrich each other. Trines generally show natural talents.
The disharmonious aspects are opposition (180°), sesqui-quadrate (135°), square (90°), and semi-square (45°.)
Opposition is considered disharmonious or dynamic, but opposition is known to motivate and energize. Opposition causes a tension between the planets, and the struggle to resolve the tension usually causes positive results.
Square is considered almost a blockage. Planets in square represent forces that are moving in different directions. Planets in a square aspect create desires and needs which are mutually exclusive or problems that continually resurface.
The sesqui-quadrate points to long-term learning tasks.
The neutral aspects are semi-sextile (30°) and quincunx (150°).
