Legislators in Massachusetts' MetroWest region succeeded in getting a second night of bingo approved by the sate Lottery Commission. For the past ten years, two charitable organizations, The Ashland Emergency Fund and The Campership Coalition, held joint bingo games once a week. Now they will be able to operate a second weekly game.
The organizations hope that adding another weekly bingo game will help bolster the charities' dwindling funds. Attendance plummeted after the state passed a ban on smoking in bingo halls last spring. The organizations hope that by adding another bingo game, they will be able to bring proceeds back to their previous level.
Now that two games are approved, each organization will benefit from its own license, opposed to the joint license they previously shared.
