Although admitting to charges of robbing an elderly woman of her $450 bingo winnings, the alleged perpetrator claimed not to have hit the woman intentionally. The 31-year old homeless man was charged with unarmed robbery of a person over age 60, assault and battery and burglary and assault on occupant. The suspect allegedly perpetrated the bingo robbery to support his heroin addiction.
According to the Lynn, MA Assistant District Attorney, the suspect showed up at the bingo game with his girlfriend and her mother. Bingo operators allowed him to volunteer at the bingo game after the suspect told them that he was a recovering drug addict seeking to change his ways.
After the game, the suspect followed the victim home, gained entrance into her apartment complex and accompanied her in the elevator. The suspect falsely led the woman to believe that his mobile phone was not working and thus was granted access into the woman's home where he allegedly ripped the woman's purse with the bingo winnings out of her hands, splitting the woman's lip in the process as he swung the bag in her face.
